Dubai City Tour vs Abu Dhabi Day Trip: Which Should You Choose?
Two of the most popular sightseeing tours in the UAE are a Dubai city tour and a day trip to Abu Dhabi. If you only have time for one, which should you pick? Here is an honest comparison to help you decide.
At a Glance
- Dubai half-day city tour: 4–5 hours, from AED 549 per group
- Dubai full-day city tour: 8–9 hours, from AED 799 per group, includes Burj Khalifa At the Top
- Abu Dhabi half-day tour: 4–5 hours, from AED 699 per group
- Abu Dhabi full-day tour: 8–10 hours, from AED 999 per group, includes Qasr Al Watan entry
All tours are private, with hotel pickup in Dubai and a live English-speaking guide.
Choose a Dubai City Tour If…
- This is your first time in Dubai and you want the famous landmarks
- You have limited days and prefer less time in the car
- You want to go up the Burj Khalifa (included on the full-day tour)
- You love markets – the Gold and Spice Souks are highlights
A Dubai city tour mixes old and new: Al Fahidi Historic District, an abra crossing on Dubai Creek, the souks, Jumeirah Mosque, Palm Jumeirah and Downtown Dubai. See the full itinerary on our Dubai city tours page.
Choose an Abu Dhabi Day Trip If…
- You have already seen Dubai or are staying 4+ days
- You want to visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
- You enjoy architecture, culture and calmer surroundings
- You want to add Ferrari World or Yas Island
The highlight is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque – a breathtaking white marble masterpiece. The full-day tour also includes Qasr Al Watan Presidential Palace, the Emirates Palace exterior and the Corniche. Details on our Abu Dhabi day trip page.
Travel Time
Abu Dhabi is about 1.5 hours from Dubai each way, so roughly 3 hours of a full-day trip is spent on the road (in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle). A Dubai city tour has short drives between stops, so you see more per hour.
Our Recommendation
If you have 3 days or less, do the Dubai city tour and add an evening desert safari. If you have 4 days or more, do both – Dubai first, then Abu Dhabi on a separate day. Families with small children often prefer the half-day versions of each.
